49ers are starting who???

📝 News & Notes

49ers will be without Brock Purdy, Jauan Jennings, Ricky Pearsall, and George Kittle in Thursday night’s game
My take: Mac Jones will get the start at QB against a difficult Rams defense, with only CMC and a band of misfit toys to throw to. The 49ers’ system is usually strong enough to survive a few injuries but this many top contributors is likely to matter. I’m mostly staying away this week from all parts of the 49ers offense outside of CMC.

ARI RB Trey Benson to IR with knee injury, likely out 4-6 weeks
My take: We are likely to see three RBs active for Arizona: Emari Demercado, Michael Carter, and Bam Knight. One thing we have learned from the Cardinals is they seem to fit their RBs to their system rather than the other way around. And that is having two RBs with clearly defined roles. To start, Conner was the early down and short yardage back, Benson was the receiving back. Conner gets hurt and Benson moves into the Conner role while Demercado takes the Benson role. Based off RB profile, historical usage, small sample size from last week’s game after Benson’s injury, and Carter stating he’s the starter, my lean is Michael Carter will take that initial James Conner role and Demercado will stay in the pass catching role.

TB RB Bucky Irving has a foot sprain, is considered week-to-week [Adam Schefter]
My take: The Bucs will use both Rachaad White and Sean Tucker during Bucky’s absence. My expectation is Rachaad White will get the majority of the rushing work and nearly all the passing down work. The team trusts him and they can use his pass catching ability with Evans and McMillan out, and Godwin still ramping up. The longer Bucky’s absence though, the more time Sean Tucker has to grow his role as the potential primary rusher.

Start with confidence
Rams - Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, Kyren Williams, Rams DST
49ers - Christian McCaffrey

Start them if you need to
Rams - Matthew Stafford, Joshua Karty (K)
49ers - Kendrick Bourne

Sit them if you can
Rams - Blake Corum, Tyler Higbee
49ers - Mac Jones, Eddy Pineiro (K), 49ers DST

OUT: Brock Purdy, Jauan Jennings, Ricky Pearsall

My favorite Bet of the Night
Parlay CMC Over 6.5 receptions AND CMC Under 52.5 yards (pays +500)
This is a reverse correlation longshot bet that fits well with how we expect this game to play out. McCaffrey getting a bunch of underneath passes and dump-offs but unable to be efficient as the offense as a whole will struggle. Is it likely to happen? Prob not. But is it likely enough to make it a strong bet with the +500 payout? I think so.

📊 Poll of the Day

Yesterday’s poll: Rank the Chargers WRs for the rest of season

Personally, I have it as QJ, McConkey, and Keenan with QJ / McConkey being a near dead heat. Worth also considering that if we end up with an injury to Keenan or QJ, McConkey could very well revert back into a similar role to last year.

Which WR would you rather have rest-of-season?
