📝 News & Notes

The Lions shipped David Montgomery to the Texans for Juice Scruggs, a 4th, and a 7th. Denver last second tried to sneak in but Houston upped their offer (and rather overpaid) to seal the deal.

Winners:
Jahmyr Gibbs - The leash is officially off. Montgomery's snap share dropped to 33% over the final 8 weeks of 2025. Now there's no timeshare to speak of (pending free agency and the draft). Gibbs is a locked-in top-3 RB in dynasty and is now in a dead heat with Bijan Robinson for the #1 overall pick.
David Montgomery - Going from DET to HOU is a clear team downgrade but when you consider what HOU is giving up to acquire and pay him, and how they’ve previously used inefficient backs in high volume roles, I don’t think Montgomery could have found a different team to give him more touches. Let’s all welcome David Montgomery to the RB dead zone.
Free Agent RBs - With a relatively weak incoming rookie RB class, and a free agent pool lacking marquee names, many believe the price for Montgomery was so high because of the expected high cost to sign guys like Rico Dowdle and Tyler Allgeier.

Losers:
Woody Marks - Marks likely slides into a backup role, with potential to play a more pass catching role, which was his strength in college. Montgomery will likely get the early downs and goal line work.
Joe Mixon - Likely getting released, though anyone following this saga already expected that. I imagine he’ll sign as a backup somewhere though even that may be optimistic.

🏃 Combine RBs

  • Jeremiyah Love (4.36 forty, 212 lbs) - Matched Jahmyr Gibbs' combine 40 at 15 pounds heavier. Earned an A grade from CBS. The Gibbs/Bijan Robinson comps are real. He's the consensus RB1 in this class and a near-lock for the top 10 picks. Landing spot matters for Year 1 best ball, but the dynasty price is already elite and justified.

  • Mike Washington Jr. (4.33 forty, 223 lbs) - Fastest RB at the Combine. 99th percentile weight-adjusted 40 time among drafted NFL RBs. At 6-1, 223 with a 39-inch vert, the athletic profile is absurd. He's firmly in the RB3 conversation and a major dynasty riser.

  • Demond Claiborne (4.37 forty, 188 lbs) - 23.7 mph top speed during the 40. 2nd-fastest RB at the Combine over the last 3 years behind only De'Von Achane. 51 catches over his last two college seasons. He's small, but the Achane comp is the right one. Shout out my alma mater, Wake Forest!

  • Jadarian Price (4.49 forty, 203 lbs) - Solid, not spectacular. The pass-catching chops showed up in drills (only 15 catches in college). He's the RB2 in this class but the gap between him and Love is significant.

📡 Combine WRs: Who Moved the Needle?

  • Carnell Tate (4.53 forty, 6-2, 192 lbs) - The consensus WR1 in this class ran slower than expected, though reports are it may have been closer to 4.45. That said, his tape plays faster than the stopwatch: elite body control, vertical threat upside, and a near-lock to go top 15. Even at 4.53, we have seen a lot of similar WRs have success at that speed (Davante Adams, CeeDee Lamb, Mike Evans). Also, props for him for actually going out there and competing with the 40.

  • Omar Cooper Jr. (4.42 forty, 6-0, 196 lbs) - Indiana's national championship WR earned an A grade from CBS. The best YAC weapon in the draft per evaluators: play strength, contact balance, and sure hands in a compact frame. Projected as a top-40 pick with the potential to reunite with Fernando Mendoza if Vegas takes them both.

  • Bryce Lance (4.34 forty, 6-3, 204 lbs) - Yes, Trey's brother. A 9.98 RAS score out of 10. That size-speed combo at WR is rare. He's a potential top-100 pick and a name to watch in dynasty rookie drafts.

  • Germie Bernard (4.45 forty, 6-1, 206 lbs) - Answered the speed questions. Profiles as a high-end WR3 at the next level. Not a fantasy priority, but a player whose landing spot could make him a late-round best ball target.
