📝 News & Notes

Jayden Daniels has been shut down for the season [Ian Rapoport]
My take: Not surprising and unlikely you were counting on Jayden Daniels for anything at this point in the season. Marcus Mariota could be a superflex fill-in, particularly in Week 17 against the Cowboys who are giving up the most points to opposing QBs.

Philip Rivers will start in Week 16 against the 49ers [Adam Schefter] while Anthony Richardson has been cleared to return to football activities [Matt Zenitz]
My take: The Colts are down to only an 11% chance of making the playoffs and after almost beating the Seahawks, likely believe Rivers gives them the best chance forward. I’d be surprised if we see Richardson this year other than perhaps in a meaningless Week 18 game.

Joe Burrow will remain the starter despite the Bengals being eliminated from the playoffs [Paul Dehner Jr.]
My take: This wasn’t something I was concerned about but great to see it’s official

Bhayshul Tuten will undergo surgery to repair a finger injury suffered last weekend [Mike Garafolo]
My take: Travis Etienne has a difficult match-up vs the Broncos (who give up the 3rd fewest points to opposing RBs) but when you consider his high-value role and minimal chance of losing goal line work, he remains a very strong play for the fantasy playoffs.

💰️ Waiver Wire Report

At this point, leagues are likely down to at most four teams. Top priorities are usually defenses and kickers people have been streaming. And the occasional injury replacement such as if you had Patrick Mahomes. This is also a time to consider your opponent needs and using the waiver wire to play defense by blocking your opponent from the best pick-ups. No budget recommendations as it’s time to unload whatever is left.

QB
If you need a replacement for the semi-finals, you’re likely looking at rough options such as CJ Stroud, Tua Tagovailoa, Marcus Mariota, Aaron Rodgers, and Bryce Young. However, my favorite option is none other than Tyler Shough. Coming off three solid games and showing his rushing ability, he gets the Jets who just gave up 330 yarda and 6 TDs to Trevor Lawrence and the Titans the week after.

RB
ARI Michael Carter: my favorite RB option with Bam Knight suffering a bad ankle injury, Carter becomes a high-volume option against friendly defenses vs. ATL and @CIN.
LAR Blake Corum: double-digit carries in back-to-back games and four TDs in his last three; handcuff-plus with weekly Flex value on a strong offense
WAS Jacory Croskey-Merritt: handled 18 carries and scored with Chris Rodriguez Jr. out; volume-driven Flex if the backfield stays thin. Value minimal if Rodriguez returns.

WR
No waiver breakout candidates here that haven’t been referenced before. If Luther Burden plays and Rome Odunze misses again, that’s probably my top play of the relatively unowned WRs (did you know he’s 6th among all WRs in yards per route run!?). I’ll also include Jayden Reed with a friendly upcoming schedule as he is still only owned in 41% of Yahoo leagues.

TE
HOU Dalton Schultz: Somehow still only owned in 49% of Yahoo leagues, Schultz has had 8+ targets in 5 of the last 7 games
NYG Theo Johnson: He’s been sneaky productive this year, emerging as a downfield threat for Jaxson Dart. Tough matchup but can count on solid production for a waiver pick-up.
MIA Darren Waller: Two words. Cincinnati Bengals. Prior to last night, Waller’s usage and snap count hasn’t been great but he was a clear weapon last night and gets the best possible matchup for TEs in Week 16.
