📝 News & Notes
June 1st lived up to the hype. And if we’re being honest, overdelivered. Let’s break down the trades and fantasy implications.
A.J. Brown → Patriots
This was expected but drafters should be more at ease now that the trade is official. New England landed Brown for a 2028 first and a 2027 fifth, reuniting him with Vrabel and handing Drake Maye a true No. 1.
AJ Brown: Unquestioned alpha likely still in the peak of his career. Playing with his most WR-friendly quarterback. I’ve got him as an early 3rd rounder and one of my favorite QB-WR stack combos in best ball.
Drake Maye: One of my favorite best ball targets when you consider his price (AP 71) and only gives more confidence now with an elite #1 and solid #2 in Romeo Doubs
DeVonta Smith: The value. With Brown off the field since 2022, Smith ran a 29% target rate and 2.6 YPRR, front-end WR1 usage. The market has already baked in this trade but you’ve gotta love the upside if he falls to the 4th round.
Goedert: In 246 routes without AJ Brown, Goedert posted a 26.4% target rate and 2.65 YPRR, both top-two marks at the position. Ready for my long shot hot take? Dallas Goedert will finish as a top 5 TE at the position this year. 🔥
Makai Lemon: Probably the widest range of outcomes among Philadelphia pass catchers, will likely have an opportunity to develop into the #2 option. Too expensive at his current price for me though
Myles Garrett → Rams (huge in real life, quiet for redraft)
Cleveland shipped the back-to-back DPOY to LA for Jared Verse plus a 2027 first, 2028 second, and 2029 third. Barnwell called Garrett maybe the best player ever traded in his prime.
IDP/dynasty story: hold/buy Garrett, Verse gets the keys in Cleveland, Braden Fiske rises in LA
Skill-position impact is minimal. Watch for a more pass-heavy Browns in negative scripts as their defense won’t be able to keep games as tight.
