Camp’s barely open and it’s already chaos: knees buckling, star backs holding in for new deals, and clean backfields turning into committees.

Ricky Pearsall (SF, WR) has the 49ers exploring all options, including possible surgery, on the right knee (PCL) that cost him games last year.
My take: This does not sound good. Pearsall was a trendy breakout pick after his strong finish, but surgery being on the table in late July is a red flag. I think I’d still take him the 18th round but don’t blame anyone who takes him completely off their board. On the other hand, De'zhaun Stribling rockets up rankings to the ~12th round as he’ll likely get an early opportunity to prove that high draft capital.

Kaelon Black (SF, RB) is in line to get first chance and a hear start on winning the No. 2 running back role behind Christian McCaffrey after Jordan James fractured a rib.
My take: This was setting out to be one of the most important camp battles for a backup RB spot as if 30-year old CMC with a long injury history goes down, there is likely a very valuable RB role to be had. We’ll continue to watch camp news but if Black holds the job through August, he becomes one of my favorite late RB flyers.

Bijan Robinson (ATL, RB) and Jahmyr Gibbs (DET, RB) both sat out Day 1 as hold-ins while they wait on long-term extensions, though both are on-site and talks are reportedly headed in the right direction, per ESPN. Robinson led the NFL with 2,298 all-purpose yards last season.
My take: Don’t overthink this one. A hold-in means they’re in the building and the money is coming, so this is contract theater, not an injury or a role change. I’m still taking both inside the first two picks without blinking. The only version that worries me is this dragging deep into August, and nothing here suggests it will.

Alvin Kamara (NO, RB) and Travis Etienne (NO, RB) were splitting first-team reps at the Saints’ first practice, with Etienne landing in New Orleans this offseason after an 1,100-yard season in Jacksonville.
My take: This just signals a recurring problem for anyone paying Etienne’s top-20 RB price. I don’t expect this to be a true timeshare but Kamara is going to be stealing most the pass down work with a chance at getting some or most the goal line work. Etienne’s current price is still too rich for me but if it drops to the mid-4th, I’ll start buying.

Daniel Jones (IND, QB) took every first-team rep in the Colts’ first practice and flashed real out-of-pocket mobility off his repaired Achilles, while Anthony Richardson worked with the 2s.
My take: There should not be any concern around Daniel Jones’ availability but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be considering his injury. A substantial amount of his fantasy value comes from his rushing and that’s what I’m concerned will be limited. Thankfully the market is accounting for this at his current ADP of 146. I’ve got a decent amount of him and will keep drafting him, particularly as a stack partner.

Cyrus Allen (KC, WR) took first-team reps on Day 1, with Andy Reid saying I think Pat’s got some trust there, per Arrowhead Pride.
My take: Deep, deep sleeper, but this is how it always starts in Kansas City. A fifth-rounder earning early Mahomes trust is worth a dynasty taxi spot and maybe a best-ball dart in 20-round, large tournament formats. Also a guy you can talk about now and impress your friends when he is making splash plays in preseason.
