Most of the league is trending healthy into Week 8, but a banged-up Eagles backfield headlines the Friday board, so let's sort out who's playing before you lock your Sunday lineups.
📝 News & Notes
Saquon Barkley sat out Thursday's practice, his second straight absence with a hamstring issue, and DeVonta Smith (hamstring) joined him on the shelf ahead of Sunday night against Washington. With Jalen Hurts out, Philadelphia runs everything through Barkley's early-down and goal-line volume, so any limitation reshapes the entire game plan.
My take: I'm still betting Saquon suits up given how often the Eagles rest him midweek, but Elijah Mitchell is worth picking up as a stash. Smith missing both days has me building lineups like he's out.
Lamar Jackson was a full participant Thursday, locking in his return Sunday at Buffalo after the ankle cost him Week 7. Baltimore's offense was unrecognizable without him, and Derrick Henry spent that afternoon running into stacked boxes with no threat of the quarterback keeper.
My take: Henry's efficiency lives and dies with Lamar's legs forcing lighter boxes, so this is a week to start him as a confident RB1 again and the last clean buy window on Zay Flowers before the offense reboots.
Rashee Rice and Travis Kelce were both limited Thursday, Rice managing a hamstring and knee and Kelce an ankle, as Kansas City preps for an afternoon kickoff at Denver. Rice has been the clear target hog in this passing game when healthy, so his status swings the whole Chiefs receiving outlook.
My take: I lean both being limited rather than out, which means I'll start Rice as a flex if he's active. Kelce's ankle is worth a Friday glance, but a limited veteran tight end almost always suits up.
Jaylen Waddle upgraded to a limited practice Thursday after the chest injury had him trending toward a Week 8 absence, a real boost for Denver's passing game hosting Kansas City. RJ Harvey also popped up as a limited addition with a knee, muddying an already crowded backfield behind Jonah Coleman.
My take: Waddle going limited flips him from likely-out to a volatile flex, so I want Friday's designation before I trust him. In that backfield it’s going to be ugly in the nearterm with my longterm bet being Jonah Coleman with the highest upside.
Ladd McConkey logged a full practice Thursday and is out of the concussion protocol, clearing his return for the Chargers against the Rams. Feels like forever since we’ve seen him be active but probably a result of how bad the connection has been this year.
My take: You’re still starting him as the engine of this offense but as bad as the offense has been, and Mike McDaniel still calling the plays, I don’t feel great about it.
Elsewhere: Ja'Marr Chase (ankle) was back practicing and is good to go for Cincinnati, Brock Bowers returned to full participation with no restrictions at the Jets, Jeremiyah Love logged another limited session but is still at risk of splitting early work with Bam Knight, Aaron Jones was limited may surprisingly play this week at Detroit, Tyler Warren returned to limited work after two straight DNPs, George Pickens stayed limited but pointing toward playing, Emeka Egbuka was limited as he works through the concussion protocol, Stefon Diggs practiced in full for Washington, Brian Robinson sat again with a hamstring which only feeds Bijan Robinson's workload, and Tyjae Spears missed another day, leaving Tony Pollard as the clear Titans bellcow (pending a last minute trade).
