📝 News & Notes
LeQuint Allen's injury clears a lane in Jacksonville, Washington's backfield thins out, and a few receivers get healthy.
Bhayshul Tuten (JAC, RB) gets a nice boost to his pass catching role as pass blocking specialist LeQuint Allen is set to miss the rest of camp with an injury.
My take: I think people will bump Tuten up on this news, possibly pushing him into the fourth round. I’m not sure that’s right though as at the same time he may get a few more targets, it’s sounding more and more like Chris Rodriguez will play a significant role in this offense (particularly around the goal line).
Washington's backfield (WAS, RB) thinned out fast, with Jerome Ford landing on IR (hamstring) and Jeremy McNichols out multiple weeks with a quad, pushing the team to sign Craig Reynolds for depth.
My take: This is clarity for Jacory Croskey-Merritt who now has a cleaner early-down and goal-line runway at RB38 (ninth round). Rachaad White (RB40, round 10) keeps the passing-down role and is a fine PPR dart, so I'm content with drafting both at those prices. I’ve significantly cooled off on Kaytron Allen.
Emeka Egbuka (TB, WR) limped off the Jets joint practice with a toe issue that's since been deemed stable, with Todd Bowles calling him day-to-day and stopping short of guaranteeing Week 1.
My take: Egbuka was already overpriced to me so this will either perhaps give me a buying opportunity if he falls far enough or more likely, just give me more confidence to stick with the fade.
DeVonta Smith and Garrett Wilson (PHI + NYJ, WR) are both back on the field, with Smith ramping off a hamstring toward the Patriots joint practices and Wilson returning after a Monday absence.
My take: No changes here. Smith is a bit too pricy for me at his early 3rd round price but I have been trying to mix him in just to increase my Jalen Hurts exposure. Garrett Wilson remains one of my favorite early WRs at cost.
Darren Waller (CAR, TE) is being brought along slowly, working on the side Monday and not expected to do much in Wednesday's joint practice with Jacksonville, though Dave Canales says he's in phenomenal shape.
My take: Not relevant in anything but best ball but in large tournaments, I like mixing him in late. He’ll be a low drafted player that’s skill set is in the end zone.
⚕ Injury Corner w/ Deepak Chona
Dr. Deepak Chona is here with a data-driven read on the injuries shaping draft boards. His full rundown:
Jeremiyah Love, RB, ARI - Avg 3-5 wks. Data favors dip in efficiency + touches 1st 6 wks post-return. Re-injury risk ~20% (high) during that window
Emeka Egbuka, WR, TB - Data favors return Wk 1. If so, project mild impact of injury on stats
Jordyn Tyson, WR, NO - Severe recurrent hamstring. Re-injury risk '26 is very high. Will likely be in lab over offseason to address potential mechanical issue
George Kittle, TE, SF - Data favors playing Wk 1 but w/major performance dip thru '26. High soft tissue injury risk
Luther Burden III, WR, CHI - Jogging at practice this early suggests mild severity. Avg 2-3 wks. Re-injury risk ~5% per preseason wk missed (project 10-15%). Data favors playing Wk 1 w/minimal limitations
Alec Pierce, WR, IND - GM comments optimistic for Wk 1 but risk rising
Malik Nabers, WR, NYG - Highly optimistic for Wk 1 return. Data projects 85% of pre-injury baseline stats, but suggests ~4 wk ramp up in volume
Tucker Kraft, TE, GB - Likely playing Wk 1. TE avg 6 wks to ramp up targets, but 90+ %ile athlete favors early return
Breece Hall, RB, NYJ - Low overall concern. 2-3 wks would not threaten Wk 1 and would carry low re-aggravation risk (~10%)
Makai Lemon, WR, PHI - 2nd hamstring. Significant time missed for rookie WRs tends to cause dip in stats early. High recurrence risk
