📝 News & Notes
Training camp is bringing us some much needed information into some of our key injury concerns.
De'Von Achane (MIA, RB) is cleared for the start of camp with no restrictions after offseason shoulder surgery, with coach Jeff Hafley confirming he'll have "no limitations" as the Dolphins ramp up. Achane put up 1,838 scrimmage yards and 12 touchdowns last year and just signed a four-year, $64 million extension.
My take: Positive news but if only that positive bill of health came with a QB who would throw to his RBs and an offense that isn’t projected to be one of the worst in the league. Achane is unfortunately a big miss, small win player for me given the likely range of outcomes for that offense.
Zach Charbonnet (SEA, RB) opened camp on PUP as he recovers from a torn left ACL, and with Kenneth Walker gone to Kansas City the Seahawks spent a first-round pick on Notre Dame's Jadarian Price. Albert Breer reports Charbonnet's Week 1 readiness is "a potential close call."
My take: I would be SHOCKED if Charbonnet is ready week 1 but I’ll admit I’m surprised to even hear that being discussed. Going to be monitoring this closely as he has been completely off my draft radar with the expectation he’d be out through at least October. I’ll also likely be buying the Jadarian Price dip this will bring.
Chris Olave (NO, WR) will practice with no limitations after spending the offseason on blood thinners for a blood clot suffered late last season, and he got through his first full-contact practice unscathed. On the comeback, Olave said "I'm not scared".
My take: I'm buying. The talent was never the question with Olave, availability was, and a concussion-free 2025 turned into career highs. At his discounted ADP, you're getting a legitimate target hog on an ascending offense. I’m not concerned about Tyson hurting Olave’s stock and think if anything, the market is overreacting.
Ladd McConkey (LAC, WR) says he's a "full go" for camp after a spring hamstring strain, avoiding the active/PUP list. He steps into Mike McDaniel's new-look Chargers offense as the clear top target.
My take: Yesterday I talked about how I think the price on Quentin Johnston has gotten too high. As for Ladd, I’m buying. The hamstring's behind him and McDaniel's scheme is a dream fit for a separator like McConkey. Yes, they added bodies to the room, but he's the unquestioned alpha and people keep overthinking it.
Tank Dell (HOU, WR) avoided the PUP list Tuesday and is cleared for football activity, roughly 19 months removed from a torn ACL, LCL, and MCL and a dislocated knee on one gruesome play. Team sources say he's "making outstanding progress" in his recovery.
My take: This is great news but I’m staying cautiously optimistic. Avoiding PUP is a positive first step but there is still a lot to go. And even fully healthy, it’s likely Jayden Higgins plays opposite Nico Collins in 2-WR sets, leaving Tank only in the slot. At his current price, he’s a redraft stash, a best ball flyer, and a dynasty target.
Alec Pierce (IND, WR) opens camp on the Active/PUP list after offseason ankle surgery that still hasn't fully healed, with a reported four-to-six-month timeline that puts even his Week 1 status in question.
My take: This has been mostly expected if you’ve been following the reports around his progress. After signing a 4-year, $114 million contract in the offseason, I fully expect him to be the #1 WR in this offense, with big game potential given his high ADOT and downfield role. This is the dip I’ve been waiting to pack my bags.
Josh Downs (IND, WR) is in line for a bigger role, with coach Shane Steichen saying the staff is finding "different ways to get him the ball" beyond the slot, including more snaps in 12 personnel two-WR sets. With Pierce banged up, his path to volume just widened.
My take: This is the type of report that will move Down’s stock. We know he has the talent. The question has always been can he find a way into playing in 2-WR sets. With minimal competition across from Pierce, Downs could find his way as a top-24 WR if this new role emerges.
