📝 News & Notes
The preseason's first weekend adds a ton of noise to the conversation. Question is can we find signal that’s actually actionable? Here's what moves the needle.
Malik Nabers (NYG, WR) returned to full team drills for the first time since tearing his ACL last September, though he told reporters "there's no target date" for Week 1.
My take: Not changing my take from the last week or two. Still think he’s a solid pick at the 2/3 turn but not willing to chase him into the mid 2nd.
Tyler Warren (IND, TE) remains Indy's top target, with Daniel Jones finding him and slot man Josh Downs for touchdowns in red-zone work.
My take: The clearest path to being an elite TE in fantasy is being the #1 pass catching option. With Alec Pierce still not healthy and Josh Downs having limitations (most noticeably being 5’9” 170 lbs), and a solid drumbeat on Tyler Warren, I think hes a solid bet for outperforming his ADP in combination with Daniel Jones.
Cam Skattebo (NYG, RB) looked fine in the Giants' opener, but the snap chart told a cautious story: a full committee with Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary, and Skattebo off the field on third downs. Isaiah Likely saw just six snaps in a tight end rotation with Theo Johnson.
My take: This could be just managing Skattebo’s touches coming off the injury but it has me a bit concerned. There is already macro risk to this offense with this coaching staff and if Skattebo is not a workhorse, he is extremely unlikely to make value at his 4th round ADP.
Jeremiyah Love (ARI, RB) will miss at least a week with a high ankle sprain after Arizona ran the No. 3 overall pick out there for 14 touches in his preseason debut. Hopes are he’ll be ready for the season opener.
My take: Not great for a rookie, particularly when high ankle sprains have a history of causing efficiency declines even once back active. This was never a bet to start the season but I don’t love it’s just another reason for the Cardinals to slowly ease him in. Currently thinking I’ll be willing to take him late 3rd though will also test to see if I can ever get him falling to the 4th.
Breece Hall (NYJ, RB) looked like a bigger piece of the Jets' plan, staying on for third downs after coming off in those spots a year ago.
My take: I’ve been high on Breece (and Garrett Wilson) as I think the market overall is underappreciating that they could still have strong season despite the Jets being bad. This echoes some of the recent coachspeak supporting Breece Hall having a larger role.
