📝 Week 7 Key Takeaways

CIN - Joe Burrow torched Baltimore for 292 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-13 romp, with Tee Higgins (6-148-TD) the clear alpha. The one caution is Chase Brown: he held a strong 75% snap share (81% on early downs) but turned it into just 15 touches with no gain longer than eight yards, and it was Samaje Perine who vultured the goal-line score on only four touches. Going to monitor if there may have been an undisclosed injury.

BAL - Lamar Jackson sat with the ankle after being ruled out Saturday, so Tyler Huntley threw for 298 and a score while Derrick Henry got stuffed (17-45). Baltimore was finally healthy at receiver, with Zay Flowers (8-137-TD), Rashod Bateman and Ja’Kobi Lane all playing 82%-plus of 11-personnel snaps, and it’s worth noting Lane’s route and target rates actually topped Bateman’s.

TEN - Tony Pollard went off for 129 yards and three scores on 25 carries, and with Tyjae Spears inactive (knee) he absorbed an even heavier share of early-down work while Michael Carter was the only other back to take a snap. Calvin Ridley (hip) also sat, pushing Elic Ayomanor into a full-time outside role next to Carnell Tate.

CLE - Quinshon Judkins ran for 96 and two scores on 17 carries, settling back into the early-down and goal-line role now that the backfield is healthy, with Dylan Sampson back as the passing-down handcuff. Kevin Concepcion was the story through the air, turning a career-high 35.7% target-per-route rate into eight catches for 129.

MIA - With De’Von Achane out for the year, Ollie Gordon II is a genuine bellcow, playing 42 of 52 snaps before garbage time and grinding out 103 yards and a score on 25 carries, with Malik Willis adding two scores through the air in the 28-25 win. Backup Jaylen Wright (quad) left late, which only tightens Gordon’s hold on the job.

NYJ - Braelon Allen carried the backfield for 104 yards on 17 carries with Breece Hall out a fourth straight week (quad), but Hall was limited in practice Thursday and Friday and looks close to returning, at which point this likely turns into a committee. Geno Smith threw three touchdowns and Omar Cooper Jr. furthered his OROY campaign going (5-115-TD) in the 28-25 loss.

TB - In a 43-13 blowout, Tampa Bay ran it 49 times and threw just 11, so Bucky Irving’s 24-106-2TD came in a run-heavy committee, with Irving at 25 touches to 14 for Kenny Gainwell and seven for Sean Tucker. With Egbuka out (concussion), Baker Mayfield completed just seven passes and four went to Chris Godwin.

CAR - Nothing worked in the 43-13 loss, with Bryce Young throwing two picks and Chuba Hubbard managing just 33 yards. Darren Waller’s 50-yard touchdown led the team in receiving, but he paced the tight ends at only a 58% snap rate before garbage time and has cleared a 14% target rate just once this year, so the big play looks more like noise than a breakout.

NYG - Cam Skattebo returned to the lead role for 124 yards and a score on 17 carries, but this backfield is anything but settled: it’s the fourth arrangement New York has used this year, Tyrone Tracy (hamstring) left early, Devin Singletary mixed in on passing downs, and all three backs found the end zone. Malik Nabers added 7-111 with J.J. McCarthy throwing for 252 in the 27-21 overtime win.

HOU - With David Montgomery (groin) out and the depth behind him banged up, Woody Marks played a huge 89% of the snaps but netted just 66 yards on 19 carries as the offense sputtered to 153 passing yards. Nico Collins held his usual near-full snap share, so this was an offensive-line and efficiency problem, not a usage one.

DET - Detroit rolled 20-17 as Jared Goff threw for 303 and two TDs to Jameson Williams, with Amon-Ra St. Brown going for 9-153, while Jahmyr Gibbs shouldered a massive 29 carries for 116 yards. Not the most team points but such a tightly concentrated volume can be strong games for all three.

GB - Josh Jacobs made his season debut after his roster exemption was lifted, and the Packers eased him into a three-man committee: he played just over 50% of the snaps and led the team with only 11 carries for 36 yards as the run game stalled in the 20-17 road loss. He did though have a very impressive receiving TD tiptoeing down the sideline. Jordan Love threw for 274 and two scores with a pick.

LAR - Matthew Stafford carved up Las Vegas for three touchdowns, and Puka Nacua played through the calf at 85% of the snaps to catch eight for 68 and a score. Kyren Williams and Blake Corum split the load, both racking up 99 and 93 yards respectively to go with a TD.

LV - The Raiders managed just six points through three quarters before a 15-point fourth dressed up the final line. Kirk Cousins finished with 295 yards and two scores, but nearly all of it came after the game was decided, and Ashton Jeanty stayed stuck in a committee amid nagging ankle and foot injuries. After the Raiders have now lost 4 in a row, expect for fans to start calling for rookie Fernando Mendoza.

DEN - Bo Nix was the fantasy standout in the 30-16 win, throwing for 222 and a score and adding 73 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. The backfield is the watch item: Jonah Coleman returned from IR and immediately led the room in snaps at 6.0 yards per carry, cutting into both J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey, which makes Coleman a top waiver pick for the week.

ARI - With Jeremiyah Love sidelined a second straight week (ankle), the Cardinals backfield was a Bam Knight and Tyler Allgeier committee, and Knight has been the far more effective runner (5.8 yards per carry to Allgeier’s 2.2 over the last two weeks). The headliner was Trey McBride, who went for 10 catches, 111 yards and a score.

MIN - Minnesota ground out a 16-10 win and got Jordan Mason back from IR, and he quickly took over the backfield (19 of 34 snaps) after Aaron Jones left with a lower-body injury. Justin Jefferson was quiet (4-44) in a low-volume script even with the receiver room finally back at full strength.

IND - Jonathan Taylor ran for 95 and a score on 18 carries, but the real signal was behind him: backup Seth McGowan played a career-high 20 snaps in a true two-thirds, one-third split and ran 11 times for 46. With the Colts at 2-5, their GM fired, and trade rumors swirling around Taylor, this usage could be smoke that a trade is on the horizon.

PIT - Jaylen Warren led the backfield for 101 yards on 18 carries, but he doesn’t dominate it: he tends to start drives and rotate out, and Rico Dowdle (knee, questionable) still factored in, keeping their touch counts closer than the snap split. Aaron Rodgers was efficient (212, TD) and DK Metcalf managed just two catches for 56.

NO - In the 16-10 loss, Tyler Shough threw for 278 but the offense bogged down in the red zone, and Pittsburgh’s run defense stuffed the Saints’ backfield. Alvin Kamara took over passing-down duties with CJ Donaldson out (shoulder) and led the room in touches (6-5 rushing, 7-57 receiving), while Kendre Miller actually out-carried him with eight attempts for just six yards. With New Orleans on bye and Travis Etienne eligible off IR, Miller is a drop candidate even in this banged-up room.

ATL - Michael Penix Jr. threw three touchdowns and Drake London found the end zone (7-66-TD) in the 29-20 win. With Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) out, Bijan Robinson tied a season high at 81% of the snaps and dominated touches 25 to three.

SF - Brock Purdy threw for 288 but with two interceptions, and George Kittle returned to post 8-88 as a top target. The concern is Christian McCaffrey, who left early with a thigh injury and sat the entire second quarter before returning, and rookie Kaelon Black (12-63-TD) out-touched him, so monitor CMC’s status through the bye.
