📝 News & Notes
Jahmyr Gibbs (DET) gave Lions fans a jolt when he pulled up and slid awkwardly just short of the goal line late in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Packers, intentionally staying down to drain the clock rather than score. He still finished with 143 total yards on 34 touches, and Dan Campbell said Monday he expects Gibbs to be fine.
My take: I’m not seeing much on there being any serious injury so not downgrading him at this point. Just keep a light eye on his practice reports this week to be safe.
Aaron Jones (MIN) is headed for an MRI after leaving Sunday's 16-10 win over the Colts with a knee injury, and head coach Kevin O'Connell said Monday he still feels good about the backfield, noting he doesn't see it as a depth issue at all. Jordan Mason, back from IR himself, handled 15 carries for 68 yards once Jones went down.
My take: Mason steps in as the lead back if Jones misses time but manage expectations as he’s still mostly a zero in the passing game. If Jones’ injury is serious, I’d also expect the Vikings to kick the tires on a potential Jonathan Taylor role.
Kirk Cousins (LV) kept the box score respectable again, but after a fourth straight loss head coach Klint Kubiak said the staff is thinking about everything, and rookie No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza is the name waiting in the wings.
My take: Cousins is still a fine streaming QB2 while he holds the job, since he has 240-plus passing yards in six of seven games. But Mendoza is the stash in deeper leagues: if Kubiak makes the change, the rookie inherits Brock Bowers and a pass-leaning script overnight.
Trade deadline watch. With the deadline approaching and the Colts sitting at 2-5, Jonathan Taylor's name keeps surfacing, and Jaguars receiver Brian Thomas Jr. has drawn louder chatter after another quiet stretch. The Chiefs are also calling around for receiver help after a rash of injuries at the position, with Colts slot man Josh Downs floated as a name to watch.
My take: Seth McGowan is a must-add in case JT does get traded and if BTJ got moved, expect Travis Hunter’s offensive snaps to climb. I wouldn’t spend too much on either but worth stashing if you can.
Elsewhere: Christian McCaffrey (thigh) said he'll be "alright" and the 49ers are on bye, so no panic there, with rookie Kaelon Black the stash if you have an IR slot. Texans rookie Jaylin Noel (turf toe) was in a walking boot during Houston's bye, clouding his role. And keep an eye on Buffalo's Keon Coleman, who stays tied to Josh Allen as D.J. Moore works back from a shoulder issue.
📝 Waiver Wire Report
Running Backs
Jonah Coleman (DEN) is the top add on the board. The rookie came straight off IR and immediately led the Denver backfield in snaps, with his nine carries matching R.J. Harvey and J.K. Dobbins combined, and Sean Payton said afterward he has to "get him more touches." My lean is Coleman is the favorite to take over the early-down work while Harvey stays in the passing-down role. FAAB: 20-30%.
Dylan Sampson (CLE) returned from IR and looks like Cleveland's clear passing-down back, playing all twelve snaps in the two-minute drill and out-running Quinshon Judkins in routes and targets while mixing in six carries. He projects for six to twelve touches with more value when the Browns are chasing points, which could be often at Pittsburgh. FAAB: 5-10%.
Bam Knight (ARI) has been the more effective Cardinals runner with Jeremiyah Love (ankle) sidelined, piling up 161 scrimmage yards on 27 touches over the last two weeks at a far better clip than his committee-mates. But not sure how much longer he’ll keep value as Love could return as early as this week. FAAB: 5-10%.
Seth McGowan (IND) is purely a trade-deadline stash, but a worthwhile one: he played a season-high 34.5% of snaps as Jonathan Taylor's usage dipped amid deal rumors. If Taylor is moved, McGowan steps into something like 15 touches a game overnight. FAAB: 3-7%.
Samaje Perine (CIN) keeps eating into Chase Brown's work near the goal line, stealing a touchdown Sunday and logging fourteen carries two weeks ago. Brown still owns the snaps and early downs, so this is a handcuff bet that the split keeps shifting if Cincinnati's offense stays stuck. FAAB: 2-5%.
Wide Receivers
Omar Cooper Jr. (NYJ) is the must-add of the week where he's still out there, and at 48% rostered he may not be. The first-round rookie has back-to-back 100-yard, touchdown games since returning from IR (19.3 and 20.0 half-PPR), and the Jets are clearly funneling him red-zone looks. He's a WR3 with real upside against Las Vegas. FAAB: 30-50%.
Caleb Douglas (MIA) has popped in both games he's finished, catching two of three targets for 70 yards and two scores Sunday after a 94-yard Week 1. The rookie profiles as Miami's clearest perimeter target the rest of the way, which carries week-to-week risk in a bad offense but a real role against New England. FAAB: 10-18%.
Antonio Williams (WAS) moves up the board with Terry McLaurin out for the year. The rookie led Washington's receivers in snaps and routes before the bye, and a pass-leaning offense that will likely be chasing points sets up a WR4 role with upside. He draws Philadelphia on Sunday night. FAAB: 8-15%.
Travis Hunter (JAX) is a speculative dart tied to the deadline. He caught all four targets for 59 yards and a score on just nine offensive snaps back in Week 6, and if Brian Thomas Jr. is dealt, Hunter's route share grows in a top-ten offense. Jacksonville returns from its bye against Indianapolis. FAAB: 2-5%.
Cooper Kupp (SEA) is worth a late add after Rashid Shaheed left Sunday with a knee injury. If Shaheed misses time, Kupp climbs the Seattle target hierarchy on Monday night against Chicago. Hold the add loosely until Shaheed's status firms up. FAAB: 2-5%.
Tight Ends
Chig Okonkwo (WAS) is the priority add at the position. He has 13 targets, 11 catches and 129 yards over the last two weeks, and with McLaurin done for the year he's set up as a top target for Jayden Daniels alongside Stefon Diggs. He actually out-gained Diggs on equal targets in Week 7. FAAB: 10-18%.
Brenton Strange (JAX) returns from the bye as a high-end TE2, having rattled off three straight seven-plus target games and 19 catches over his last three. He’s establishing himself as one of Lawrence’s favorite targets. FAAB: 8-15%.
Michael Mayer (LV) has quietly settled in as the Raiders' second option behind Brock Bowers, posting three games above 10.5 half-PPR points since Bowers returned, each with seven or more targets. The matchup matters a lot here, and at the Jets it's a playable streaming week. FAAB: 5-10%.
Quarterbacks
Malik Willis (MIA) carries a streamer's dream floor: he has run at least eight times in three of his last four games, and he added two touchdowns Sunday. That rushing volume plus a get-right matchup against New England makes him a sneaky one-week play. FAAB: 3-7%.
Geno Smith (NYJ) threw three touchdowns in Week 7 and gets a soft Las Vegas defense next, with rookie Omar Cooper Jr. giving the passing game some juice. He's rostered in under 10% of leagues, which is too low for a streamer with this matchup. FAAB: 2-5%.
