Fully Out on this 6th Round RB

And a late round RB I'm buying

📝 News & Notes

  • Joe Mixon to miss extended period of time with foot injury [Ian Rapoport]

My take: My level of concern has risen substantially, as the comments around the severity have taken a strong left turn. My read on the situation is that more than the start of the season is in jeopardy and I do not believe the Texans were aware of this complication or they likely would have addressed free agency and/or the draft differently. Mixon will not be dropping in drafts enough for me to currently be considering him. Nick Chubb and Woody Marks become late round targets.

  • Justin Jefferson to be held out with hamstring strain, with HC O’Connell saying he sees no concern for Week 1 [ESPN]

My take: While Jefferson is unlikely to miss Week 1, he is missing valuable practice time with new QB J.J. McCarthy. But likely more concerning is the increased likelihood of an in-season soft tissue re-aggravation of the hamstring. That said, I think it is fair to drop him to overall pick 5 or 6 but I would not let him fall past that. Use this opportunity to get unique pairings with Jefferson and a mid 2nd-rounder.

  • Matthew Stafford’s injury has moved from day-to-day to week-to-week. McVay said the goal remains to have Stafford back for Week 1 [Sarah Barshop]

My take: This isn’t great news for a 37 year old QB with a history of back problems and as for Puka and Davante, they at least have a serviceable backup in Garoppolo but it would still be a major hit to their fantasy values. I wouldn’t drop either of them from the tier they’re in but have moved them each back a few spots.

  • Terry McLaurin shifts from hold out to hold in, with the team using an ankle injury to place him on PUP [Adam Schefter]

My take: I believe the market is going to overreact to this hold-in and ankle news as more often than not, these situations usually resolve without hurting fantasy value. It’s a great time to try and get unique McLaurin pairings.

  • Jauan Jennings suffers calf injury, no timeline to return. Shanahan notes it could be similar to what Jennings dealt with in the spring. Ricky Pearsall returned to practice [Nick Wagoner]

My take: Jennings has not yet missed any games in his career from a calf injury but assuming this isn’t just a contract play, multiple aggravations this offseason is concerning. I don’t know if the injury is real, if it’s severe, or if it may linger so I’ll likely pass on him for at least a round until we get more information.

  • Darnell Mooney will miss most of training camp with a shoulder injury [Zach Klein]

My take: An injury that they immediately shared would keep him out for at least a month has me slightly concerned. Valuable camp time missed with the new QB and a month long injury could bleed into the regular season or have additional impacts. I think it’s fair to drop him a half round.

  • Tank Bigsby continues to get the majority of the carries at camp [SI.com]

My take: There is a ton of camp news I could share regarding who is running with the 1s, who is looking good/bad, but for the most part I hold off until we start seeing a trend. The Tank Bigsby reports are consistent and definitely trending. Tank is likely a very strong value on half PPR sites but still has limited upside on full PPR given his minimal pass catching chops. I also think Tank being the primary rusher is good news for Bhayshul Tuten as the team likely sees the deficiencies in Etienne and creates a cleaner path to earning a role.
