📝 News & Notes
Kenneth Walker returns to practice [Brady Henderson]
My take: To see how we got here, it’s helpful to look back at the coachspeak over the past two months:
8/11: “We have a plan for Ken, and we’re sticking to the plan.”
8/2: “Kenneth Walker still has a little soreness in his foot right now. He’s fine, we’re just taking care of him now throughout camp.”
7/23: “Kenneth Walker looks great. He’s in a great spot, mentally. Just awesome to see him do all the things that we wanted him to do. Great first day.”
6/10: “Kenneth Walker is working through an ankle, but he should be fine.”The coaches have never expressed any concern but coaches also aren’t the most honest. So the lack of practice time the past week had been concerning however, with him coming back, I’m willing to give benefit of the doubt to this being something the team can manage throughout the year. Overall, I am very bullish on this rushing attack and am overweight both KW3 and Zach Charbonnet. Shoutout to the Coachspeak Index for the quotes.
Jordan Love is undergoing a procedure on his non-throwing hand’s thumb [Rob Demovsky]
My take: While it feels like the entire Packers offense is hurt, I am not letting this injury impact my rankings. Love should return to practice next week and with it being his left hand, not expecting any regular season impact or heightened reinjury risk.
Najee Harris participated in light individual drills at Tuesday’s practice [Kris Rihm]
My take: This likely slows down his ADP fall but I’m personally not trying to buy at this price. My guess is Harris is still a ways away from being game-ready and I’m not expecting him to claw back the workload he has likely ceded to Omarion Hampton.
Matthew Stafford misses another practice [Sarah Barshop]
My take: The saga continues. Each additional day adds more concern. Sticking with what I said yesterday, “my current lean is Stafford will still be ready week 1 but I’ve accepted even if that is the case, there is heightened risk of missing games this season.”
Falcons HC Raheem Morris says “we’ll have [Darnell Mooney] back healthy this year” and it’s “kind of a week-to-week basis.” [Josh Kendall]
My take: Yikes. The updates on Mooney have been vague but the expectation was he’d be ready by Week 1 or shortly after. This new quote is either Morris playing coy with the situation or legitimate concern this could be a substantial absence. Either way, it’s enough for me to drop Mooney a couple rounds until we learn more.
