Najee Freefall + Godwin Red Flag?

Don't Fear the PUP

Remember that firehose of information I mentioned? Well, it’s been turned on. Get ready for a crazy 6 weeks!

📝 News & Notes

To kick things off, this is a good time to bring back up what Schefter noted regarding the training camp PUP: “A player can come off PUP at any point in training camp. It’s just a roster management tool at this time of year.”

I mention this because a slew of players were announced to be placed on PUP, including but not limited to: Chris Godwin, Darren Waller, Najee Harris, Brandon Aiyuk, and Ricky Pearsall. Some of these may be worrisome and some may mean nothing. But either way, we should not be materially changing our evaluations simply because they are on the training camp PUP at this point.

The more noteworthy news is when a person recovering from an injury avoids the PUP such as Stefon Diggs, Anthony Richardson, Chris Olave, and Tyreek Hill.

  • Stefon Diggs has been cleared for full participation at training camp [Dianna Russini]

My take: Things have been trending this way but good to see it official. Expecting Diggs to move up to the 6/7 turn which I think is a fair price.

  • Chris Godwin underwent another minor ankle procedure this spring to have it “cleaned out” [ESPN]

My take: We don’t know if this was before or after the draft but hard to not think it had some impact in them drafting Egbuka. My level of concern on Godwin is steadily rising and I’ll be leaning more into drafting Egbuka and McMillan at their current prices. Speaking of Jalen McMillan, OC Josh Grizzard has big plans for the 2nd year WR.

  • Najee Harris situation continues to look worse. Harbaugh’s comments include “he’s doing everything that he can. So, just praying for healing” and not knowing if Harris will be back for training camp. My take: I drafted Harris in the 140s recently but not sure I’d even be willing to draft him there going forward. His only advantage over Hampton was being the veteran and getting first reps but with that gone, on a new team, he’s heading towards the back-up role with a major injury risk. As for Hampton, 🚀

  • Matthew Stafford to have practice time limited due to back soreness [Adam Schefter]

My take: Low concern at this point but will continue monitoring, perhaps using it as a tiebreaker against Puka and Davante

📊 Poll of the Day

I think these type of hypotheticals are both interesting and insightful for drafting. It can help us understand how the market value’s a player’s upside (or whatever contingent risk). Round 8 would put Sampson next to Brian Robinson and Jordan Mason which in my opinion, is actually probably a round too low.

If Najee Harris was announced out for the season, what is the highest you'd be willing to draft Omarion Hampton?
