Overreaction Season Is Here

And We're Ready for It

📝 News & Notes

  • Joe Mixon placed on non-football injury list [Adam Schefter]

My take: I expect the market to overreact to this news more than they should presenting a buying opportunity when Mixon falls. Previous reports have been positive, so my current concern level is only a 1 out of 10.

  • Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones split first team reps, with Jones getting more so far [James Boyd]

My take: This could be a result of easing Richardson in with his injury or a sign that Jones has the early lead. Still a situation we’ll be closely monitoring.

  • Colston Loveland cleared for training camp [Brad Biggs]

My take: This is likely the cheapest you will be able to draft Loveland as I expect the market to start buying with this news and upcoming camp highlights

  • Braelon Allen drumbeat continues as further reports he’ll “fit in beautifully with Justin Fields on read-options” [Connor Long]

My take: I expect the Jets to run a ton and even though Fields doesn’t throw to his RBs often, his presence will open up opportunities for whatever RB is back there. Allen is a solid late-round flyer who may have both contingency and standalone value.

  • Keenan Allen “has drawn interest from multiple teams in recent weeks” [Jordan Schultz]

My take: The Keenan Allen bet just became a lot less risky. We can infer from this report that Allen wants to play football and there are (likely) teams interested in signing him. He also will likely have his choice of a good offense, a good role, and/or good weather which would all help his fantasy campaign. Good time to buy as he’s going to start rising.

  • Early WR formations suggest Jack Bech is still fighting for a spot in 3-WR sets [Vincent Bonsignore]

My take: D’onte Thornton remains a solid late round WR on half PPR sites. Bech’s price has fallen recently but it probably won’t stop as his line of sight to playing time is quite murky.

  • Ricky Pearsall expected to start practicing Sunday [Nick Wagoner]

My take: A clear example of why not to overreact to early PUP news

  • Noah Fant to visit Bengals [Jordan Schultz]

My take: I’d probably avoid Mike Gesicki for a couple days until we get more clarity. Fant, a more traditional TE, would likely eat into Gesicki’s snaps.

📊 Poll of the Day

Another fun hypothetical yesterday for where first rounder Omarion Hampton would be commonly drafted if Najee was out for the season. He doesn’t have as high of draft capital or as good a talent profile as Jeanty. And the Chargers is a great landing spot but not elite given the lack of throwing to RBs. So I wouldn’t be able to move him into the first round but definitely would see him in the 2nd round. Probably above JT and Bucky Irving but behind Achane and Henry. Will be interesting to see how this all plays out as we get more updates on Najee.

Where do you think Keenan Allen signs?
