Slow news day so going to focus today’s N&N on the Anthony Richardson vs Daniel Jones QB battle

March: HC Shane Steichen said it will be a good QB competition between them, they’ll split reps going into camp, and the winner will be whoever is most consistent

April: GM Chris Ballard said whichever QB gives them the best chance of winning will be the starter

June: Richardson reaggravated his throwing shoulder, forcing him to sit out minicamp and see multiple doctors to assess his options

Last week: Richardson ‘expected to be fine’ for the beginning of training camp in July

Yesterday: Colts beat reporter James Boyd believes Daniel Jones ‘has already taken a significant lead’ in the QB competition [The Athletic]

My Take: When I heard the Colts say the winner will be “whoever is most consistent,” it felt like they were setting the stage for Daniel Jones. He won’t beat Anthony Richardson in upside or big-play ability - but he is like to in consistency. That comment alone made me lean 60/40 in favor of Jones starting Week 1.

Richardson’s injury had me off him, but with positive health reports, I now think Jones is a 60-70% favorite. The yet to be discussed factor? When Jones starts, he’s a top 15-20 QB. When Richardson starts, he’s a top 7-10 option.

How I’m drafting:

• SuperFlex: taking both

• 18-round formats: fading both

• 3-QB builds (DK): sprinkling Richardson

If Jones keeps trending toward the starting job, I’ll shift to drafting more of his pass catchers, and maybe even some Jones himself.
