Say It Ain't So Stefon

📝 News & Notes

Stefon Diggs accused of felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery charges
My take: While not a good look for Diggs or the Patriots, I think it is very unlikely anything happens this season that would jeopardize his role in the playoffs. Likely something to track during the offseason. On a completely unrelated note, here is a video of Vikings players being asked which teammate would they least like to date their sister.

Riley Leonard to start at QB for the Colts
My take: The Texans are 10.5 point favorites and just need to win to secure the 5-seed. With Riley Leonard starting, probably safe to pencil in the 12-5 Texans at the winner of the Ravens/Steelers duel.

📝 FFPC Playoff Challenge

I am making it my mission over the next two weeks to get one of our FFin60 family to win one of the FFPC Playoff Challenge contests. To do that, I’ll be sharing everything I can to help you all build a winning roster so if I don’t take down top prize, one of you does.

The first topic that is pivotal to understand but may seem foreign to newcomers is uniqueness. Because everyone has the same player pool to select from, it is far more valuable when you adopt a unique strategy or pick a unique player that does well compared to picking the same players as everyone else that do well. In the latter, you don’t gain any ground on the field vs. in the former, you can really climb the leaderboard and separate from the pack.

One area to really get an early head start on the field is when thinking through which two teams you want to fully fade. I start there and then try to identify which teams I want to soft fade, meaning picking the lower scoring positions (K and DST) from teams I also expect to lose. It’s usually fairly straightforward for how the public will play the hard fades, simply avoiding the biggest underdogs and/or the underdogs with the lowest projected point total. If the Panthers and Steelers both make the playoffs, they’ll likely be the clear choices. After them, we’d likely be looking at the Packers, Bucs, or Chargers depending on the matchups. Obviously lots of time to make a decision and this weekend’s games can really shift the landscape but thinking about how to get contrarian in these fade picks is a key opportunity.

The next topic I’ll be diving into is positional scarcity at each position, both to better identify who we believe the field will select and then make our own picks.

For now, if you want to reserve your entry and take advantage of the free $25 for new users when you enter either contest, you can do so by signing up with code FFin60. Can’t really ask for a better deal than being able to compete for $100k at 70% off!
