Two Stars Return to Practice

ADP Risers / Fallers

🎉 FFPC Draft Party - TONIGHT!

Let’s gooooo! Join me tonight for an FFPC Draft Party as I’ll be hopping in a bunch of drafts to compete against FFin60 readers.

  • 7:30pm ET ($125 Best Ball)

  • 9:00pm ET ($35 Superflex)

If these both fill quickly, go ahead and jump in one of the other ones around these times and I’ll see if I can multi-draft with you all.

If you are new to best ball and looking to try it out, but maybe have a question or two, please feel free to reply to this email and I’ll help as I can.

📝 News & Notes

  • Matthew Stafford returns to practice but timeline and availability for week 1 still uncertain [Wyatt Miller]

My take: A step in the right direction after a rather concerning few days. Assuming no set backs, I still believe he will be out there week 1 but heightened risk of an aggravation throughout the season. Not going to fade Puka and Davante but not taking them as high as I was a month ago.

  • Justin Jefferson returns to practice, on track to play Week 1 [Adam Schefter on MNF]

My take: Continuing to happily draft him in that top 6 tier. And for those in one-and-done type contests or thinking about DFS, he is going to have an insane amount of volume week 1 with Addison suspended and Jailen Nailor now likely to miss with a hand injury.

  • Brian Robinson trade rumors heat up as he and Commanders come to mutual decision to not have him play in MNF game

My take: At this point, I’d be surprised if Robinson is a Commander week 1. I think most likely result is a late round pick swap but wouldn’t be surprised if they cut him after not being able to make a deal. The Jacory Croskey-Merritt drumbeat continues and Chris Rodriguez becomes a name to watch.

🔍 ADP Tracker

📈 Risers

  • Quinshon Judkins - After news came out that Judkins will not be criminally charged, drafters raced to grab him ocasionally as high as he was going pre-incident. However, he still has not signed a contract and the possibility of a suspension by the league still exists. I shared my take on Twitter.

  • James Cook - Signing his 4 year, $48 million contract has eliminated most concerns about Cook as a fantasy pick. I like his best ball upside being the primary rusher on a high scoring offense but I’m unlikely to chase him into the third round given the Bills’ continued usage of Ray Davis and Ty Johnson.

  • Keenan Allen - He continues his climb and I still believe he has another round or so to go. Allen is drafted in an interesting spot of drafts where the WR dropoff is severe, pulling him up as WR needy teams draft him. I try to not be taking WRs in this range but when I am, I’m still clicking Allen.

  • TreVeyon Henderson - Henderson has looked dynamic during both preseason games and there is no question he’ll be used heavily as a pass catcher in the backfield. The question remains can he eat into Rhamondre Stevenson’s workload as the primary rusher and goal line back. If he can, he has league winning upside.

  • Tory Horton - Horton has been a camp darling for Seattle, getting regular usage with the starters. His top competition for the #3 WR spot is MVS who has had his share of struggles during preseason. And if Cooper Kupp is in decline, it wouldn’t be shocking if Horton ended the year as the #2 WR across from JSN. I think he’s a strong best ball and sleeper pick in all formats.

📉 Fallers

  • Puka Nacua and Davante Adams - These falls are a direct result of Stafford’s injury concerns. Despite a competent backup in Garoppolo, Stafford remains the WR kingmaker for fantasy and any missed games would have a noteworthy impact. I don’t expect them to climb back up but the fall may level off with Stafford returning to practice.

  • Rashee Rice - The market has reacted to the news that Rice’s suspension is likely to be on the higher side, perhaps 6-8 games, while also occurring later in the season where it’s more penal to fantasy owners. And as noted previously, there’s even a chance he’d miss the fantasy playoffs.

  • Breece Hall - Splitting work with Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis, as well as ceding third down snaps, the upside case for Hall is becoming less likely to hit. I think I’m more bullish than the market on his talent overcoming throughout the season but I’m not going to be reaching above ADP to take him.

  • Tyjae Spears - Spears has fallen almost two rounds from his high ankle sprain. I’ve started buying in the 140s as his true value comes from contingency upside if Pollard gets hurt. Spears missing this preseason time and potentially the start of the season doesn’t materially impact the upside play.

  • Tre Harris and Quentin Johnston - Still feeling the effects of the Keenan Allen signing, it also doesn’t help that rookie KeAndre Lambert-Smith continues to shine. All three guys are fighting for the #3 WR spot which makes them still too expensive at their current price.
