📝 Week 9 Key Takeaways

CHI - Bears score 47 points - Rome Odunze finishes with 0 fantasy points (on 3 targets). Go and submit some offers in case the owner is frustrated. It was a week for the rookies, with Colston Loveland (81% of the snaps, 6/118/2) stepping up after Cole Kmet suffered a concussion. Kyle Monangai similarly took advantage of the friendly matchup and Swift being out by rushing for 176 yards and catching 3 passes for 22 yards.

CIN - If there was any doubt that Flacco is better for this offense than Browning, today ended that conversation after throwing for 470 yards. Samaje Perine left the game with an injury which increased Chase Brown’s receiving role, leading the team with 14 targets. Both Chase and Higgins surpassed 100 yards but this was a Higgins game as he finished with a 7/121/2 line.

MIN - JJ McCarthy makes his return to the field as an efficient game manager, throwing for 143 yards and 2 TDs, in addition to rushing for a TD. Aaron Jones had a strong first half before injuring his shoulder in the 3rd quarter. I expect to see more passing attempts when the Vikings aren’t leading all game (which this theory will likely be tested next week vs. Baltimore).

DET - Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta combined for 60% of Goff’s targets, each finishing with 97 receiving yards. In a game the Lions trailed, they still managed to get David Montgomery more involved as he led in carries despite only playing 38% of the snaps.

CAR - Panthers pulled off the shocker as 13 point underdogs. As we expected, Rico Dowdle took back the lead RB role and rushed 25 times for 130 yards and 2 TDs. In games the Panthers are able to rush effectively and hide Bryce Young, it will be hard for anyone else to be fantasy relevant. Chuba Hubbard only played 22% of the offensive snaps.

GB - Despite the 13 point upset, the more impactful loss today may be losing Tucker Kraft for what the coaches are saying “does not look good.” Christian Watson ramped up to 66% of the offensive snaps, with Romeo Doubs getting the target volume (29% of the targets). Josh Jacobs only played 58% of the offensive snaps but had a dominant role going 17/87/1 in addition to four receptions.

DEN - The Broncos are finding more ways to get RJ Harvey involved, as today he led the team in receiving going 5/51/1. Troy Franklin was featured among the WRs, playing 79% of the offensive snaps and leading the team in targets.

HOU - CJ Stroud left the game in the 2nd quarter with a concussion, putting him in at risk of missing next week’s divisional match-up vs the Jaguars. Despite Stroud leaving, the Texans usage looked what I believe we can expect going forward. Nico Collins led the WRs with 28% of the targets, with Christian Kirk second. And the RB workload was fairly evenly split, with Woody Marks get the receiving work.

ATL - Drake London has a career day, going 9/118/3 on 14 targets. Responsible for all three TDs and 40% of the team’s offensive yards, hard for anyone else to do anything too noteworthy. Only 7 Falcons had a rush or reception.

NE - In TreVeyon Henderson’s opportunity as the lead back, he had a respectable 14/55/0 on the ground and 4/32/0 in the air on 75% of the offensive snaps. Back-up RB Terrell Jennings still handled 11 touches and vultured a rushing TD.

SF - With Brock Purdy missing another game (and being “not that close” to having been active), Mac Jones played near perfect football throwing for 235 yards and 2 TDs with just 5 incompletions. McCaffrey continued his most valuable fantasy role in football, with 163 total yards and 2 TDs. No other player finished with more than 5 targets.

NYG - In their first game since the Cam Skattebo injury, Devin Singletary surprisingly led the backfield in snaps (56%) and rushes (8 to Tyrone Tracy’s 5). Wan’Dale Robinson continued his ‘PPR scam’ style going 9 for 46 yards in the air on 11 targets. And despite the loss of skill players, Jaxson Dart continues to put up fantasy points thanks to his legs, rushing for 56 yards and a TD.

IND - In a rare game the Colts mostly trailed, we got to see how they would handle a high passing volume gameplan. Alec Pierce and Michael Pittman each finished with 27% of the targets, followed by Josh Downs at 20% and Tyler Warren at 11%. Jonathan Taylor had his quietest game of the season, only rushing for 45 yards and catching both of his targets for another 12 yards.

PIT - The Steelers only ran 62 offensive snaps as they tried to slow the game down while leading. They only totaled 241 total offensive yards and Calvin Austin III and Darnell Washington tied for the team’s highest targets with 6. Even in a tough effort, Jaylen Warren broke his TD drought scoring twice.

LAC - The Chargers took a major hit on offense, losing OT Joe Alt to a likely high ankle sprain. That will undoubtedly impact the offense going forward. The Chargers used a full WR rotation, with no WR playing 70%+ of the offensive snaps. Compare that to Oronde Gadsden who led the pass catchers in snaps (80%), receptions (5), and receiving yards (68).

TEN - Don’t be confused by the 20 points they scored. Zero of those points came from offensive TDs.

NO - Alvin Kamara continued to struggle with his ankle injury, only playing 58% of the offensive snaps and turning that into 17 total yards. Rashid Shaheed was Tyler Shough’s favorite target, earning a 39% target share. Tough game here but favorable matchups upcoming with their remaining games being CAR, ATL, MIA, TB, CAR, NYJ, and TEN.

LAR - Puka Nacua left the game in the third quarter with a chest injury and though he didn’t return, he was seen on the sideline with his helmet on. Davante Adams continued his elite red zone role coming down with 2 TDs. Kyren Williams played 69% of the offensive snaps, turning that into a 25/114/1 rushing line.

JAX - In the first game without Travis Hunter, Parker Washington became Trevor Lawrence’s most trusted receiver, going 8/90/0 on 9 targets. Brian Thomas Jr. was actually tied for third in targets, catching 3 of 5 for 55 yards. Travis Etienne only played 58% of the snaps but totaled 27 touches, 22 carries for 84 yards and 5 receptions for 31 yards.

LV - Brock Bowers must be an FFin60 reader and have taken personal offense to the majority of people favoring Jake Ferguson and thinking Bowers was anything but a top #1 TE when healthy. Holy smokes he came back strong with a 12/127/3 day!

KC - Without Isiah Pacheco, Kareem Hunt led the backfield playing 78% of the offensive snaps, rushing 11 times for 49 yards and a TD. Brashard Smith did not see any significant uptick in role. Patrick Mahomes failed to throw for a TD for the first time this year but Rashee Rice still got in the end zone on a carry from the 3-yard line.

BUF - Dalton Kincaid continued his high target per snap rate, going 6/101/1 on just 35% of the offensive snaps. It’s become clear he can be a strong fantasy performer at less than half the offensive snaps. The Bills heavily leaned on James Cook, giving him 27 rushes for 114 yards (the only other RB to get a carry was Ty Johnson with 2).

If you want more detailed information on each game, including the full breakdown from the Seahawks/Commanders game, I highly recommend Nathan Jahnke’s weekly article which is the data source for much of this information.
