WR Signings, Trade Requests, and Sleepers

++ A Do Not Draft Player

📝 News & Notes

  • Terry McLaurin signs three-year, $96 million deal with Commanders [Jordan Schultz]

My take: McLaurin gets his contract and the Commanders avoid a disaster scenario of losing their #1 WR. I’m happy to draft McLaurin anywhere in the 4th round.

  • Jauan Jennings could start season in IR [Tim Kawakimi]

My take: Only days after we hear Jennings was likely to be back for Week 1, we’re now hearing likely posturing from the 49ers as they thinly threaten Jennings with IR if he chooses to extend his hold-in. I think most likely scenario is Jennings is on the field for Week 1 but the fact this is happening with less than two weeks until the season is concerning.

  • Joe Mixon will start season on NFI list, missing at least the first four games [@HoustonTexans]

My take: Below is an excerpt from the July 28th edition of FFin60. After that point, I went from drafting Mixon regularly to complete stop as the vibes around the situation continue to get worse. I remain concerned that we don’t see Mixon play at all this year and if he does, not with the same high-volume role he needs at this point of his career to be productive. I believe he should be on everyone’s Do Not Draft list.

  • Amari Cooper signs one-year deal with Raiders [Jordan Schultz]

My take: We still do not have information on this contract or if there was any competition for Cooper in the market. And there are substantial questions after last year whether or not Cooper can still be a competent WR. Probably worth a late-round flyer but not someone I’ll be targeting unless we hear something more from the Raiders.

  • Jakobi Meyers requests trade from Raiders [Ian Rapoport]

My take: Meyers is in the last year of his contract and has been looking for a new long-term deal. With the Raiders drafting two rookie WRs in the first four rounds, they aren’t jumping at the bit to sign Meyers long-term. As we’ve seen before, Meyers requesting a trade does not mean it will happen but worth dinging him a few picks given the ambiguity.

  • Jaylen Wright not expected to be ready Week 1 [Marcel Louis-Jacques]

My take: Wheels up for 6th round rookie Ollie Gordon, who had a lackluster 2024 after arguably being college football’s best RB in 2023. He’s had an impressive preseason and profiles as a strong complementary back to Achane. The Dolphins still have offensive line issues that will limit between-the-tackle running but Gordon is a solid sleeper candidate at this point of drafts.
